The Kongasis Community has undertaken several projects to help underwrite the cost of educating needy students.

Kongasis Computer Services - In 2003, friends from the US visited KACECE and donated two computers and a printer for use by the school.  Since these could not be efficiently run by a generator they were relocated to the nearby market center of Chepseon and used to establish a computer and copy center business. The Kongasis Computer Center provides students with basic vocational training in computer skills and use of modern office equipment.  Trainees learn how to create and edit documents such as brochures and church bulletins and use the copier and binding machine to create a variety of publications.  Trainees have gone on to use their skills to secure employment in areas such as secretarial jobs, computer trainers and in their own businesses. Proceeds from this business are used to help support the operating costs of the school.

Current needs - a high quality color printer ($350 USD) and two computers ($900 USD each) to expand the number of trainees.

Kongasis Women's Sewing Project - In 2008, with support and technical assistance from Joining Hearts and Hands, Ltd. www.joiningheartshands.org,  the mothers of our school children have joined together to form a sewing cooperative to manufacture school uniforms.  Sales of the school uniforms will provide needed income in an area of high unemployment and enable the parents to pay school fees for primary, secondary and college education for their children.  In particular, it expected that this project will make it possible for parents to afford to educate their daughters who are often short changed educationally when families are poor and large.

Current needs: Funding for sewing machines. Tax deductible donations may be made to Joining Hearts and Hands, Ltd.at www.joiningheartsandhands.org.  In subject/memo line of check note: Kongasis Women's Sewing Project.

Water for the Kongasis Community – in need of funding - Our next major undertaking is to develop a clean water supply for the school and the surrounding community.  The need is urgent and requires funding estimated at $10,000.  Donations from supporters will be used to leverage limited government funding that may be available.  Securing clean water for the community will reduce the number of days children lose from school due to water born diseases and provide more free time for studies for girls who are responsible for fetching water long distances. Improving sanitation and health conditions will enhance the economic viability of the entire area.
